About Us!
Not your usual animal shelter...

Feline Rescue, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1997 to provide a safe place for stray, abandoned or abused cats to live until good permanent homes can be found for them.

Some facts about us:
  • Foster Coordinator Cathy holding Ray CharlesFeline Rescue is a no-kill cat shelter, rescue organization and foster network.
  • We are completely volunteer-run. There is no paid staff.
  • Up to 63 cats are housed at the shelter at any one time. The majority of cats roam freely most of time.
  • There are 50-75 cats in our Foster Program, including pregnant and nursing cats and their kittens, elderly, injured and special needs cats.
  • Feline Rescue is recognized by rescue and veterinary communities for its medical care of ill and special needs cats.
  • No cat is euthanized except when beyond medical treatment.
  • Cats testing positive for FIV/FeLV are segregated at the shelter or placed in foster homes until adopted.
  • Our Spay/Neuter Outreach Program provides financial assistance for low-income pet owners to alter companion cats (about 400 cats annually).
  • We also provide financial assistance for about 100 cats per year who are suffering from serious medical conditions.
  • Trap, neuter, release (TNR) projects help reduce the feral cat population.
  • We receive no government assistance.
  • Feline Rescue is supported by volunteers, donations, adoption fees, membership dues and grant monies.

How We Operate

Nearly 150 unpaid volunteers work in two daily shifts to clean the shelter, feed, groom and socialize the cats. Additional volunteers contribute through the Foster and Spay/Neuter Outreach Programs, fundraising events and other duties vital to the operation of the organization.

The majority of cats housed at the shelter are allowed to roam freely most of the time; long-term resident cats are not kenneled at all. In addition to TNR and low-cost spay/neuter programs, Feline Rescue volunteers work with the public to educate them about issues related to overpopulation and responsible pet ownership.
