Monday, 03 August 2009 17:57

The Pet Poison Helpline has released a set of guidelines for pet owners to help them avoid exposing their pets to toxins that are common during the summer months.

Did you know that the following substances are potentially toxic for pets?

  • Compost bins or piles, mulch products, some plants, onions and garlic, grapes and raisins, mushrooms
  • Slug and snail bait, mole and gopher bait
  • Fertilizers and herbicides
  • Pesticides including organophosphates and carbamates
  • Blue-green algae or cyanobacteria
  • Even salt water has the potential to be toxic to animals!

Click here for details on how to recognize the symptoms of poisoning, and what to do if your pet has been exposed.
